My grandmother is in her late nineties. She enjoys sitting next to me and watching the "photos of the world go by"
when I am on this site.

When image #3 came into view there was a little gasp from her as she leaned forward for a better look. She told that it looked just like a pier she had walked on as a child.

She went on to tell me how the ladies and gents would come out in their best attire on a nice summer day. The ladies with beautiful frilly umbrellas to shade them from the sun and dresses of finest material down to the ground. The men would twirl their fancy walking sticks as they paraded along the pier. Occasionally, she said, a man would lean close and give a woman a little kiss on the check. It was a fleeting kiss because as she put it, "displays of affection in public were not considered appropriate."

She sat in front of this picture for several minutes. For a short time she wasn't here with us in a worn out body but instead was once again that pretty little girl skipping down the pier on a warm summer's day.

She asked me to thank you for reminding her of happy times.
